Ahimsa Retreats

WE AIM FOR EVERY RETREAT OF AHIMSA TO BE “TRANSFORMATIONAL”. RESTORATIVE RETREATS FOR OVERALL HEALTH, HEALING AND WELL BEING.

Imagine getting up each day in a home surrounded by fragrant Ayurvedic gardens, watching the sunrise over misty mountains while doing yoga, then receiving on-site Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatments tailored to your specific constitution and imbalances. These unhurried treatments are given by a team of healers led by renowned practitioner Unnikrishnan Gurukkal. For the rest of each day, guests enjoy organically homegrown food, the magic of Ahimsa’s garden of healing trees and plants, time for reflection, and immersion in an ancient culture.

We give our guests the experience of seeing performances of traditional dance, music and martial arts—all conveniently at the Ahimsa villa. We hope our guests will leave Ahimsa in a state of enhanced well being, health, and optimism—better stewards of their own health and of our Earth.

Ahimsa Gardens was first opened to the world in 2013, not only to offer a unique experience of authentic Ayurvedic medicine, but also to financially sustain Ahimsa Gardens in perpetuity.

Retreat Packages

In addition to the handcrafted Ahimsa Home, we are also proud to provide two large yoga studios with floor to ceiling windows and antique hardwood floors with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the Ahimsa Garden, available for practicing yoga and meditation, and cultural events.

Ayurveda diagnoses each person’s individual constitution, then seeks to strengthen the person as a whole. This approach boosts all systems, including the immune system, by removing toxins, not only physical, but mental and spiritual.

Ahimsa offers an augmented form of this treatment, administered by Unnikrishnan Gurukkal, in which the principles of Marma are incorporated into traditional Panchakamra. Gurukkal is a highly esteemed title granted by his peers for his training and expertise. Kalari-Marma-Chikitza involves complex 1 to 2 hour massages and is administered by 2 to 3 persons.

“I can’t imagine how it works, but I certainly feel better” is a comment we often hear, even as soon as the day of first treatment.

Kalaripayattu retreats in Kerala

Because of Ahimsa’s relationship with Unnikrishnan Gurukkal, we are able to offer a unique program in which he will teach Kalaripayattu, a choreographed martial art form based in yoga and developed in Kerala starting in medieval times. Forbidden by the British, it is now assuming some of its original prominence and prestige. The course will be similar to our other workshops in that it will use the airy yoga studios and living spaces, and will include both daily lessons and supervised practice time. Each class must include six or more students, who will be pre-qualified by Ahimsa.

I found Ahimsa to be quiet and peaceful. I was mesmerized by the lush green and beautiful Ayurvedic Garden. In addition to seeing the many species of medicinal plants, from our seats on the porch we routinely saw many unique birds and butterflies.

There were times I had to pinch myself. I couldn’t believe I was there. I ate delicious vegetarian meals that were grown on the property, we did meditation every day, breathing exercises, and Panchakarma tailored to my specific needs.
